Ingrown Pubic Hair: Advice Notes For Immediate Relief

By: Mike Jones

Ingrown pubic hairs are not pleasant. In this sensitive area they can be very painful! The following notes will cure the problem within no time and also help you avoid the condition in the future.

The following background information is helpful first of all. Psuedofolliculitis Barbae (PFB) is the proper name for ingrown hair although many refer to the condition by other names such as ingrowns, razor bumps, razor burn, hair bumps or shaving bumps.

Ingrown hair is hair that has been broken or cut below the skin's surface which then doesn't grow out straight but into the sides of the hair follicle and into the skin. Also curly hair can sometimes curl back into the skin and start growing which can lead to inflamed skin and irritation.

Shaving removes the natural tapered end of a hair making it sharp and capable of cutting through skin. This is what happens sometimes so the sharp hair penetrates surrounding skin causing irritation.

Also remember the skin around the pubic area can be more sensitive than skin on other parts of the body. This makes it more susceptible to ingrown hair as hair removal methods such as shaving, waxing, or sugaring, can easily leave a skin reaction and contribute to problems when hair regrows.

Cure and prevent ingrown pubic hairs:

A hot compress can help trapped hairs release and pop up above the surface of the skin. Just hold the compress over the sensitive area for 10 minutes or so and repeat this three times a day until the condition is eased.

Tight fitting clothing can cause a problem after a hair removal session as it can put pressure on the skin and cause hair to grow in unusual ways. So wear loose-fitting clothing while you are treating ingrown hair and especially after your next hair removal session.

Some find it helpful to exfoliate the area before waxing. This removes some of the dead skin cells in the top layer of skin cells that often contribute to trapping the hairs.

To carry out exfoliation, you might want to invest in a cream or lotion or body gel. Alternatively, a slightly abrasive washcloth or glove can be used as these are designed with exfoliation in mind. You can probably get any of these at your local department store in the beauty or cosmetic department.

If you are already suffering with ingrown pubic hairs, then avoid exfoliating the skin as this may only make matters worse.

When waxing or using a sugar paste, be sure to pull the hair out by the roots. Do not allow the hair to break below the skin surface. This takes a little practice or you may prefer to have it done at a beauty salon by a professional.

For ingrown hairs which are deep, sterilize a pair of needle-nosed tweezers with rubbing alcohol and individually lift each ingrown hair out of its follicle. Wipe the area with alcohol afterwards and shave.

You can use a pin or needle if you don't have a pair of needle-nosed tweezers. Be sure though to sterilize the pin or needle with the rubbing alcohol first and use only the tip of the pin or needle to release the trapped hair. Follow up again with the rubbing alcohol this time over the area of the ingrown hair.

Pubic hair removal is now very common for both men and women. For this reason ingrown pubic hair will always be a risk after hair has been pulled out or cut off through shaving. Use the advice notes above and cure the condition immediately and use the preventative measures to avoid the problem in the future.
